Weir Cottage House Details Location & More Garden About Us Timing Cars Picture Gallery Past Exchanges Chrissy!

WELCOME!

Thanks for clicking on US cus there are a lot out there!  However, we think you have hit on one of the best exchange opportunities available in UK.

This expansive web site is produced to provide information to potential home exchangers wishing to come to UK and stay in a quintessential English thatched cottage yet utterly contemporary within AND having all facilities of a small town a VERY short stroll away - almost unique features. See the links above and pull downs to navigate around the site.

If you are not new to home exchanging you might know my late wife and I  from The Old Manor House which we sold in March 2007 after fifteen happy years of living and exchanging.  So, as you might imagine, we took time to find a worthy successor suiting our phase of life and thought we had done so.  Tragically, my wife became very ill  which curtailed our travel since moving to Weir Cottage. However, a first exchange of this cottage occurred with old exchange friends in 2011 and Lindy and I went to Gold Coast, Australia once gain.  It was her first exchange, also, and it was a great success and we are keen to do more.

Originally built as a fisherman's cottage, Weir Cottage is right in the centre of Fordingbridge and whilst only a two minute walk to the High Street is set in a Conservation Area, very peaceful and benefiting from a really beautiful garden.  The garden is bisected by a stream (with trout), a tributary to the nearby Avon, and further away from the house is a an area of woodland with small natural Ponds even a small weir. In all the house is set in over an acre - a veritable in-town oasis.

We also have Riverside Studio a self contained unit.

The picture to right is the bridge in Fordingbridge

George pub on bank - 2 minutes walk away.

Fordingbridge is one of the New Forest National Park towns but is only a few miles from both Dorset and Wiltshire counties. Besides the New Forest itself, renowned for walking/hiking and its many pubs and many historic attractions, we are also close to many other towns/cities and the wonderful attractions most visitors come to England to enjoy.  Fordingbridge has a great supermarket, interesting small shops and four pubs within two minutes walk of each other and two minutes from the house, also.

WE would certainly like to get to New Zealand again otherwise we really love Australia, USA or Canada (particularly west coast) at a warmish time of year or compromise month. Perhaps somewhere  in Italy or France.  We are, though, very easily tempted if you live somewhere interesting!  Ideally, a home with a pretty view or interesting position.

Mercedes or other car exchange is also available this end and whilst it is entirely feasible to use public transport from here it would be a little restrictive albeit conveniently available.

Follow the links above to find lots of information and to help you decide if this would be right for you.  We answer ALL enquiries very promptly and you will gather from the Past Exchanges page that there are plenty of references available should you wish to seek reassurances.

Home exchanging can scary if it's your first time but we'll be gentle with you, hehe.  Also see the link above (or click)

'Swapetiquette' for a non exhaustive list of things o consider if you are new to home exchanging whether or not you decide to write to us.  Hope it helps.  Click here for an example of the warm hearted nature of the 'exchange' community.  Good luck with your exchange wherever it may be.
